WEATHER STATIONS

The Coastal Zone Management Unit (CZMU) has acquired seven (7) Davis Weather Stations which are currently mounted at the following locations:

  • Coastal Zone Management Unit, Bay Street , St. Michael
  • Environmental Special Projects Unit, Sturges, St. Thomas
  • National Conservation Commission, Codrington, St. Michael
  • Graeme Hall nature Sanctuary, Christ Church
  • Animal Flower Cave , St. Lucy
  • Bathsheba Resource Centre, St. Joseph
  • Harrison's Cave, Welchman Hall, St. Thomas

The components of a weather station (shown below in Figure1) include the:

  • Mounting Base
  • Weather Station Console
  • Anemometer Arm, Base, Wind Vane, Wind Cups
  • AC-Power Adapter
  • External Temperature Sensor
  • Junction Box and Cable

Figures 2 and 3 show actual weather stations mounted at the CZMU and Bathsheba.

Data recorded by the weather stations include highs and lows of:

  • Temperature
  • Wind Speed
  • Wind Direction
  • Wind Chill
  • Barometric Pressure
  • Humidity (Inside and Outside of a building)
  • Dew Point

Observation Frequency

Data are recorded in intervals varying from thirty (30) minutes to one hour (each station differs) and are retrieved and archived on a monthly basis. The data may subsequently be represented in a tabular or graphical format after being processed by the Weather Link software.

 Glossary of Terms
Global Positioning System (GPS)
A navigational and positioning system developed by the U.S. Department of Defense, by which the location of a position on or above the Earth can be determined by a special receiver at that point interpreting signals received simultaneously from several of a constellation of special satellites.
