HOW TO REPORT ILLEGAL ACTIVITY

How to Report Illegal Activity

The general public may report sightings of illegal activity to the CZMU via telephone (228-5950/1/2/3) during our office hours which are 8:15am to 4:30pm . All calls are documented and assigned to the technical officers on staff. The technical officers may respond to the call with a site visit, if necessary, or refer the caller to another agency in the event that the activity is out of the Unit's domain.

Common occurrences of illegal activity include:

  • Removal of vegetation, sand, stones, shingle or gravel from the foreshore
  • Harvesting of coral
  • Use of explosives, poisons or noxious substances to harvest coral, catch, take or harvest fish
  • Damaging any coral reef by dropping anchors
  • Driving on beaches
  • Erection of structures on the beach without planning permission
  • Illegal discharge or dumping in a watercourse
  • Illegal casting of fishing nets on reefs
  • Capturing sea turtles
  • Fouling of the beach or foreshore by the deposit of offal, garbage or other waste
  • Oil spills in the nearshore or at sea
