The elevation of still water level relative to some datum.

Reef breakwater

Rubble mound of single-sized stones with a crest at or below sea level which is allowed to be (re)shaped by the waves.

Incident wave

A wave moving landward.

Longshore

Parallel to and near the shoreline; Also referred to as alongshore.

Zooxanthellae

Unicellular, symbiotic algae living within coral polyps that produce food for their hosts by photosynthesis and help efficiently recycle low-levels of nutrients.

Ballast Water

Water carried by a vessel to improve its stability.

Reef

An offshore consolidated rock hazard to navigation, with a least depth of about 20 metres (10 fathoms) or less. Often refers to coral fringing reefs in tropical waters.
